Getting to Know: Taylor Terrell

Updated: Mar 16, 2020

Hey everybody!

I am SO excited to feature Taylor Terrell. I found her channel through a video of her surprising her then long distance boyfriend. Fast forward to now, she still makes YouTube videos, but now she is married and a business owner!

Let's get into the Q&A!

Question 1: Can you give a quick background on yourself?

I grew up in Washington state, as the youngest in my family. My sisters were both one the smartest kids in their grade, and I always felt I was “average” in school but felt incredibly street smart and always knew id be “successful”. Whatever that meant for myself. Now I know being truly successful is just being able to make a living off of what you love, but I have never questioned that I would be a business owner, let alone be running two of my own businesses! My main tip is you'll never be “ready” you just have to jump in and figure it out along the way!

Question 2: What motivated you to create Salted Road Coffee?

I always wanted a job I loved, where I would be able to make a difference in the world. I got my first job as a barista when I was 16, and I was lucky enough to find what I loved so early on. If thats not the case for you, keep trying different things until you find that thing. Being able to be a part of peoples day first thing in the morning, I realized the power and influence baristas can have on your day. They can start anyones day off on the right foot and with a smile, and even more than that, make them feel heard if they aren’t in any other areas of their life. Coffee and people was my main motivation to start Salted Road.

Question 3: How did you decide on the name Salted Road?

I wanted something with a Biblical background, because thats what drives me to love people well. I believe Jesus loved us first and thats why we turn around and go love others. Salted comes from the saying “salt of the earth” in the Bible, a term Christians are referred to as. I just chose Road because our business is mobile, so with “Salted Road” the idea is I want to spread Jesus’ love wherever we go!

Question 4: How do you balance your business, family life, and any other side hustle? (Arbonne for example)

This is one of my weaknesses for sure. I get addicted to working hard and achieving and sometimes can lose sight of whats really important in life, family, God, friends, etc. The only thing that keeps me in line is to intentionally “check” myself and make sure Im giving my loved ones enough time and ultimately they come first.

Question 5: What has the customer reaction been for Salted Road?

I've been incredibly humbled by the support we have gotten this early in opening the business. Most businesses have to build up their name and exposure through advertising and marketing, but I think our scenario is unique in that people have been part of our journey the whole way. I started sharing my struggles and wins with the business from the very beginning for two reasons. I wanted to show people that even if things are hard, doesn’t mean they’re impossible — you just have to figure out another way. Also, sharing the journey allowed people to feel super invested in what I was doing, so when we ended up opening EVERYONE has been so excited and eager to share our story and support our business. Social media is free advertising and stories are what sell, combine the two and you'll have people supporting you left and right.

Question 6: Any other projects we can expect from you or Salted Road in the future?

Not as of the moment, I have things I'm considering but won’t be sharing until anything is set and stone. You'll just have to follow us ;)

Question 7: Where can people find you?

On social media you can find us @saltedroadcoffee and if you’re in the western Washington area we are at Olympia Orthopedics parking lot on capital mall drive in Olympia from 7am-1pm on Wednesday and Thursdays. All public events were at will be posted on our pages as well.

Would love to meet you!
